Responsible Tourism Policy 2007

Hotel de la Paix recognises that Siem Reap is a fast growing town in an emergent, but historically oppressed nation.

The hotel is also aware that the community suffers from issues associated with exponential tourism growth coupled with a basic infrastructure, limited funding and training.

We accept that we have a responsibility to the environment and to the community.

As such, the hotel has adopted self-regulated activities to eradicate the adverse effects of its operations, maximize the positive impacts, enhance the environment and to support the local community in a respectful and dignified manner. We willingly educate and encourage competitors, suppliers, guests and others with whom we have dealings to adopt their own responsible tourism policies and attitudes.

Specifically, we implement procedures and guidelines to:

  • Conserve natural resources - minimize energy use, minimize water use
  • Minimise pollution - effluent, carbon emissions and noise, use organic-food products
  • Respect local cultures - traditions, religions and architectural heritage
  • Benefit local communities - economically and socially via projects and sponsorships
  • Recycle litter and waste - spent oil, paper, plastic, glass and tin cans
  • Develop local skills - employ and educate in-house staff, use local suppliers, and discourage exploitation

Hotel de la Paix also promotes the values and concept of responsible tourism through its marketing and promotional materials, personnel and guest related activities.

Within the hotel, at all levels, we nurture a spirit which embraces cross-cultural sensitivity and is a core value of the Hotel de la Paix.
