Connecting
Representing a unique and inspirational approach to travel, Hôtel de la Paix offers guests the opportunity to meet, experience and enjoy the true essence of Cambodia.
Unlike many international hotels that remain insulated from the local community, Hôtel de la Paix actively supports and encourages the interaction of guests with the neighbouring environment. Guests are invited to connect with local Khmer families in a dignified way with the goal of fostering cross-cultural understanding and intercultural sensitivity through tourism.
Hôtel de la Paix guests are offered the unique opportunity to understand and appreciate the arduous journey of the proud people of Cambodia. It is a continuing journey that can greatly benefit from the exchange of cultures as well as the provision of material assistance. The daily challenges of those with limited opportunities can be overcome with support and encouragement from those who are fortunate enough to assist.
Hôtel de la Paix's dedicated team, all of whom have a deep and ongoing commitment to the Khmer people, are especially proud to provide these unique human experiences. They do this through a network of long-standing contacts that have been built from their own personal efforts within the community. An underlying knowledge of local needs is paramount to providing assistance where it is most needed and where accountability is guaranteed. Connections include the Sangkheum Centre for Children, the Sunrise Angkor Childrens Village, The Life & Hope Association (LHA), The Green Gecko Project, The Angkor Childrens Hospital, the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa) and the Sihanouk Hospital Centre of Hope.
Guests of Hôtel de la Paix are invited to support the revival of Cambodia's arts, culture and people through customised community-based activities such as the Hôtel de la Paix Sewing Training Centre, rice sponsorship, educational support and mentoring programs. One-off contributions and longer-term sponsorships may also be facilitated via Hôtel de la Paix's links with international NGOs and local aid organisations - all of whom are at the grass-roots level of the community and can direct contributions in the most effective manner. By participating in these programs guests can make a direct contribution to those in need.
Hôtel de la Paix is also extremely proud to be associated with the Shinta Mani Institute of Hospitality, a vocational training facility that supports and trains young Cambodians otherwise at risk. Personalised tours of the Institute (as well as the Hôtel de la Paix Sewing Training Centre) may be arranged at any time and guests are welcome to participate in sponsorship programs which are created and supported by both Shinta Mani and Hôtel de la Paix.
Whether featuring artworks and handicrafts by local artisans, showcasing seasonal Khmer foods or through thoughtful sponsorship activities, Hôtel de la Paix invites international guests to connect with the local community.

Community-based sponsorships - Some ideas We would be very pleased to design a sponsorship package to suit you. Please do not hesitate to contact us with your ideas. We will also be pleased to let you know whether it is viable for us to put the package together here, such as school uniforms, or whether it is more appropriate for you to bring with you i.e. English storybooks. |

Orphanages There are many well run and regulated orphanages within Siem Reap. Our staff have connections to quite a few and would be very willing to arrange private invitations and sponsorships on your behalf. Sponsorship could be by way of financial donation, rice support, educational support or others. Orphanages include the Sangkeum Centre (sponsored by Rice for Cambodia); The Sunrise Angkor Children's Village (sponsored by the Australia Cambodia Foundation), Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa) & The Childrens Development Village (LHA). |
All donations gratefully accepted |

Rice Sponsorship One ton of rice per month goes a long way to feeding children in many of the local orphanages. Donations are gratefully received by all of the orphanages listed above. Alternatively sponsor rice for one child per month (or per year). OVCs (orphans & vulnerable children) are children who are living within the local community - sometimes with limited parental support but more often with no support at all. Families in outlying villages can be sponsored via Shinta Mani. |

Personal Amenity Kits (www.greengeckoproject.org) Many children in Cambodia have limited access to hygiene facilities. One way to help overcome health issues is to provide a toiletry kit. Each should contain toothbrush, toothpaste, soap (and container), hairbrush, facecloth and towel. (Sponsorship via Green Gecko Project (day centre for street children)). |
USD 8 per child |

Reading Books A story book is a great joy to children in any language. As many of the children in Cambodia are learning to read and write English, a selection of library books which may be donated to an orphanage or local school of your choice would be much appreciated. Given the limited availability in Cambodia we suggest that these are packed in the suitcase and brought from home. |

Pushbikes Walking to school over long distances is not easy (especially when you are only 5 or 6 years old!). There is no family car to ride in. Quite often the children in the outlying villages have to come quite a distance in searing heat. Apart from the joys of having their very own bicycle your kind donation will ensure that they can ride to school every day. (Actually the children here share their bicycles so expect to see up to three children in one family all on the one bike at the same time!). (Sponsorship via all of the orphanages mentioned above) |
USD 40 per child |

Sangkheum Centre for Children (www.sangkheum.org) Meaning 'hope' in Khmer, the Sangkheum Center for Children is working to provide education and training options within Siem Reap. The children in the Sangkheum Centre participate in agricultural training, traditional dance lessons, education, food, and sports training. Without support, many children have no alternative but to earn their living begging from tourists around the ancient Temples of Angkor. Your generous donation of a 6 months course will provide a future for a Khmer teenager. The training covers such components as raising animals, vegetable gardening and English lessons. As life should not be 'all work and no play' your contribution will also pay for participation in sporting activities. For the younger children, you can support a family of 6 (and one 'carer') for approximately USD50 per month. This covers all costs including accommodation, food, English lessons and school fees. |
Agricultural training (one semester) USD 150 One family USD 50 per month |

With this donation it can been done within 4 weeks and can be arranged so that you are there when it is finished and share in the excitement and joy for an entire family. |
